AMERICAS FINEST CITY!!!!
really
It depends were you live.. The Very Nice areas of inner city san diego like Hillcrest( a gay community) and the gaslamp region are very nice but extremely expensive. Outer laying towns of san diego like escondido and del mar and la jolla, point loma, are all very nice and ideal for young people but can also get expensive..San deigo is great but the beaches can get dirty..tourists come and ruin it and it is not a veryclean place but there are some nice areas like la jolla cove and shores . San Diego does get gross the closer you get to mexico like National City and City Heights, logan heights are palces you definately want to stay away from.Ocean Beach (OB) pacific Beach(PB) and Imperial Beach ( IB) are nice because they are beach communities but PB is pretty nasty and is party and drug central and OB is Hippys haha

All to gether San Diego is VEry VEry nice but if you want to enjoy the really nice areas of it it will cost you.

Hope this helps

Its got earthquakes... crowded... 10% unemployment rate... some people aren't that friendly... a lot of homeless people... high crime...smog... but otherwise it can be pretty. it has a lot of beaches and its got a lot of places to shop and eat at. Apartments and homes are pretty expensive. When i was there it was super hot. I come from where its cold and is 70 degrees during the summer so in my opinion san diego was hot. people say its pretty mild tempatures.

gas prices are about the highest in the country and i would seriously suggest finding out about job ops before you get here. i have a friend staying with me who has been looking for work for months. i wouldn't call San Diego dirty, but it's certainly one of the dustiest places i've ever lived. i put up with all the downsides probably because i can afford it.

i will take exception to the smog comment. we have haze due to marine proximity, but the air quality is generally very good. and "super hot"?? today our high was in the 67º and it was 90º in NYC.

It's a lot nicer than LA (which is partially why it's so expensive to live here)

I'm a native San Diegan, 58 years worth. I'll take off my rose tinted glasses for a moment and tell it like it is.

Weather: We have May gray and June gloom, the rest of the time it's fairly moderate lots of blue skies.

Grocery, gas and everything is a little more expensive here. Today the cheapest gas is 2.89 the highest is 3.59.

Crowded and dirty? Depends on where you live, there's lots of people hear but the traffic is better than LA and the sidewalks aren't jammed with people.

City diseases? none that I've ever heard of

Clean air, we have very few warning days here any more. Thanks to stricter pollution controls over the last 20-30 years it's not too bad. We're in a kind of bowl down here and used to get LA smog blown down the coast and Tijuana smog from across the border. You can still see it on some days but for the most part the ocean breezes keep it fairly clear.

Immigrants? It's California okay, nuff said.

Now, let's be honest, the two of you are going to come here, needing jobs, needing housing, school books, first & last month's rent and whatever else. Nine bucks an hour ain't going to cut it here. Unemployment is tough, very hard to find jobs right now and those that have jobs are holding on to them with everthing they've got. The real estate market caused a lot of people to lose their homes, businesses had to cut back dramatically meaning lost jobs. It's tough to make it here and it's not going to get any better with the way the state and feds are running things. You're going to need two cars to get around, there's lots of public transportation unless you really need it because typically it doesn't go where you want but at least it takes all day to get there! Think long and hard about this. If you're just getting by in Bakersfield, you won't make it here.
