A woman I work with had a severe asthma attack in front of me and a few other workers. She was wheezing badly and we had to call an ambulance to take her to the hospital.

She returned to work about a week later. When she did, a coworker of ours said she was like a celebrity. Once she heard this, she lowered her head and quietly said that it was embarrassing.

What do you think about the celebrity comment and the woman's response to it?

The person who made the comment was crass. Of course a person was embarrassed to have a medical problem become an object of general discussion.

I think the person who made the comment was joking about the situation, and not intending to embarrass her or make her feel uncomfortable.

Her response is understandable, since it may have been a bigger issue to her then others, and she probably thinks of it more negatively then her co-workers.

It is good to have a positive/happy look on health issues, but she does have the right to keep it private.

some people do not like attention and hate anything that draws attention to themselves and she may be like that...as far as the comment , i dont think it was said to cause harm but obviously did by causing the lady further embarrasment just because she knows people are still talking about it...the co-worker should have just inquired about how she was doing and left it alone.

Maybe someone doesn't want to be remembered for something like that. Maybe that person is shy and doesn't like the fact that she had all of that attention
