Asthma causes both squeezing of the airways and swelling of the airways. Both of these things causes less room within the airways to move air. If you don't move enough air, your brain shuts down and so do you.

Mine has done this. My asthma gets so bad that I pass out and need the ER, immediately. Usually, the problem is that I can breath in, but, the carbon dioxide will not come out. Without hospital care, immedately, I would have died.
