Does anyone know if Advair should be prescribed first, before other steroids?
My husband started having asthma symptoms after 25+ yrs. His doctor put him on Atrovent and Advair right off without trying other corticosteroids to see if they would work first. My daughter has chronic acute asthma and her doctor always tries to keep her symptoms under check with other meds to avoid putting her on Advair- which, as I understand, is only when you are left without any choices for the corticosteroid, since it can cause death.

What? The most common steroid prescribed for kids (that I have seen) is Flovent. Dosage usually 44 mcg, 88 mcg, 110 mcg, 220 mcg and 440 mcg. Also, Advair is common. Dosages 230/21 mcg, 250/50 mcg, 500/50 mcg.

I havent heard of that being an excuse not to prescribe steroids. Steroids is necessary to maintain lung function to help prevent asthmatic episodes.
