severe asthma?

severe asthma?
if you have severe asthma, what exactly happens when you have an attack? And if you have a oxygen mask on at night, could you still have an asthma attack even if you have the mask on?
and how do you treat severe asthma??

Answer by icedmeg
depends on the person and there is no cure for athma. treatment is inhaler (prescription)
P.S. rumor has it there coming out with a cure in 2 years

I don't know about a cure in two years. I'd sure like to invest in this company that's going to do that.

I and my daughter, my three Grand daughters all have severe asthma. From me of course, handed down through my mothers "Y" Chromosome.

I use a Nebulizer, I also have three inhalers, along with shots every two weeks, as many as five shots. I still get attacks but, not as bad. Mt daughter has been rushed to the ER a number of times, we all carry an "Eppi" pen.
You have an asthma attack because your body is unable to take care of the swelling and the fluid build up in your bronchial tubes.
The tubes continue to swell cutting off your air supply so, this should explain the "Oxygen" part. If you can't get it, it doesn't do much good to have it.

Asthma is simply irritability of the airways caused by any number of factors. Oxygen masks do not prevent asthma, they are used in the treatment of acute asthma attacks, however. It is not a good idea to use O2 without a prescription for it, as it can be harmful to your body depending on the liter flow and the time you are using it.

Treatment for Asthma is first identifying it through a simple test, after that it is identifying the trigger and then coming up with a treatment plan that includes medication.

during an attack the bronchi spasm and constrict, they also fill with mucus.

Oxygen mask would not stop an asthma flare as it is not a lack of oxygen causing the flare.

Severe asthma is treated by a specialist. The treatment plan is dependant on the persons responsiveness to medications and what contributors there are to the asthma (allergens, GERD, uri's, etc).
