His doctor gave him flumist, but he has severe asthma. Will there be any major risks to his health?

Answer by Mrs. Rhoden
I am in nursing school now and we just administered flumists to several elementary schools. If a person has asthma they are not to have the flumist. They are supposed to get the immunization instead.

I got this statement off of the flumist.com fact site:
"The following people may not be able to get FluMist or may be able to get it only in certain situations: people with asthma or active wheezing, or children less than 5 years of age with recurrent wheezing...
If your child falls into one of these groups, be sure to tell your healthcare provider. They will decide if FluMist is right for your child."

So most likely the doctor would of already known this and determined it safe for your friend. If it truly is a concern I would just call the physician and ask them about your concerns; they will happily answer you:)
