Meditating with Asthma?

Meditating with Asthma?
Hello,

I've been meditating on my breath for about 2 yrs now and every time I meditate I get frustrated because i feel like I'm suffocating do to a tightness of breath. I've been learning meditation by way of Jon Kabat Zinn for psychological problems and it is based entirely on the breath, so I dont think i'd get the same benefits if I meditated on something other than my breath as I'm trying to "learn" my body. If I'm meditating on an object I won't be able to put an awareness on my physiology, which is what I need. I also do simple Zen Meditation for same reason. What do I do? I've tried medicines and air purifiers with no luck.

Also, to deepen meditation, one must slow down their breath. If I'm pushing my breathe in order to breath (as I need to due to the tightness) and can't get much air into my lungs, how can I do this? I can't breathe naturally. Thanks!

Not to be rude, but please make sure you are an experienced meditator if you are going to answer this question. Meditation is about acceptance of whatever is going on. Telling someone not to meditate because they have a problem makes no sense at all (as someone told me this). I am just trying to find someone who has dealt with the same situation as me. Thanks

Im not an experienced meditator but I practice it almost every day. You might want to relax your mind which means your thoughts. Try breathing from your nose then the back of your throat as in oceania breathing, it sounds like the waves of the ocean. And dont push it so hard, as it only makes it difficult and eliminates the point of meditation. Make sure your mind is quiet and let your breath do the rest.
