Asthma=death???

Asthma=death???
My mom has very bad asthma and she has bad asthma attacks often as well. Her friend's mom died of asthma and now it's scaring me. Are there any medicines that worked for you or someone you know? Do you have any stories to share? suggestions? HELP!

I have asthma and was having attacks quite often - ending up in the emergency room.
My Doctor now has me on "Zyrtec" and "Accolate". I take one pill of each a day and have not had an attack in 4 years.
I also have a "Combuvent" inhaler I keep with me at all times in case I start to get "winded".
These are all prescription drugs.

Asthma IS dangerous. With asthma that bad, your mother needs to be under the care of an allergist or pulmonologist (lung specialist). Each asthmatic is different. Not all medicines work the same for all people. Call your family doctor for his/her advice.

There is no cure for asthma but there are prescription medications that can keep the attacks at bay and under control for most people.(including myself)

If your mom gets real bad, call 911 or get her to the ER ASAP!

Don't wait! Not doing anything can be fatal! Good luck!

I have had asthma for over 20 years. I have used everything under the sun and finally found that Advair really works for me. However, that may not be the case for your mom. Has she seen a Respiratory Therapist? What kind of medication is she on?
Make an appointment and go with her. Listen to what the Doctor has to say and ask questions too.
Sadly there may never be a really "cure" for asthma. I have just found that knowing what triggers my attacks has helped me along with some good medication.
