Why do conservatives oppose environmental protection measures?
Clean air and clean water are essential to life. They are critical in ensuring the life span and health of humans. Furthermore, pollution is a very real threat. The conservatives dismiss such concerns as being bogus. Look at India, China, Indonesia, etc etc and you will see what environmental damage does. Cancers and various diseases like asthma are all the result of environment and dust particles. If lower levels of emissions are attempted to get passed, republicans block it. BP oil spill is another example of environmental disasters. Urban construction and development further destroys environment because trees have to be cut down and trees help create oxygen. Forests keep shrinking with more shopping mall construction (which creates more traffic too) and similar things.

We agree that there needs to be clean air and water. We are not willing to allow tree huggers to tax every business into extinction in order to " save the planet ".
Answer by McNamara
Such measures usually have less to do with protecting the environment than establishing new government controls for the sake of anti-capitalist ideology.

Because they are brainwashed by the corporations to not care about it. It will cost the corporations money if they have to be less filthy. Which argument makes more sense-dems want more government control(even though the control would be exerted over themselves as well) or that businesses don't want to spend more money?
