The one with asthma definitely needs it. The shot is safe. They use "dead" viruses which are injected into your body so that your body can identify what it is and build antibodies for it. This building of antibodies is not an overnight thing. Could take 2 weeks. If you catch the flu before that time you are fighting with your hands tied by your sides. Once your body has built up antibodies, your body is coming out swinging.
This is how all flu shots work or any other disease for that matter.

Young children and the elderly are highly susceptible to any kind of illness. But in most cases, the children who didn't receive it and died, had other complicated illnesses. I think it is a good idea to have your children vaccinated, but its really up to you.

It is well tested and can only help your children so I would recommend getting them all vaccinated as well as yourself and your spouse.

Speaking as an 18 year old with asthma and as someone who is dealing with H1N1 now because I didn't get the shot soon enough, it truly is attacking me hard and I have been much sicker than everyone else in my dorm that has gotten it. Please save your child the discomfort, pain, and physical stress of H1N1 plus asthmatic complications. You don't even understand how scary it is and how helpless you feel when you can't breathe at normal capacity when you're not even doing anything. H1N1 can also lead to pneumonia easily which is even worse (had it four times).

Almost all of the cases of hospitalization with H1N1 due to prior complications involve asthmatics.

Also, be sure your children get the shot and not the nasal spray. The nasal spray is the live form of the virus and inhaling it and putting it the lungs is dangerous for someone with breathing problems. And the other children should also have the shot because if the live virus is in them and they cough or breath near the asthmatic he/she could contract it before the vaccination has built up their antibodies. The shot contains the dead form of the virus and will allow a steady immune build up safely.
