What is asthma? Asthma incidence among children is increasing. How could you try to determine the reasons for this increased incidence? Design an experiment. Be sure to state your hypothesis, variables, controls, observations, and conclusions.

Asthma is a generalized hyper-irritability of the tracheobroinchial tree. It is caused by activation of certain immune cells such s eosinophils, basophils, mastocytes as well as the epithelial lining of the respiratory system. This often due to increase in pollens. Experiment: have 2 groups of asthmatic children, one lives in the city the other lives at high altitude where pollen is less common and determine the frequency of asthmatic attacks. Two, have a control group of asthmatics go about their daily lives, have the experimental group wear masks that decrease their exposure to pollen and other allergens and see what the prevalence of asthmatic attacks are. These experiments will allow you to draw conclusions about the precipitating factors and the risk of attacks.
