Asthma: What foods and Over the Counter products trigger or worsen an Asthma attack?

Asthma: What foods and Over the Counter products trigger or worsen an Asthma attack?
My sister said my recent near death attack was due to some dried apricots I ate 9 or 10 hours earlier. I had never heard this, but I am new to the Asthma wolrd. I love apricots and have not had breathing problems with them ever before. My Doc said it may have been the Alieve I took 3 hours prior. He didn't mention foods could be a trigger. Can they? What foods and Over the Counter products are suspect?

It all depends on what is the cause of your asthma!!

If apricots have never been a cause of your problem, they shouldn't be now! Try one or 2, but not a few pounds of them.

Some people are highly allergic to aleve and other items like it.

Listen more to your doctor than your sister!!

Sue is exactly right. The best way to identify asthma triggers is to keep an asthma log with peak flow readings. You can chart attacks and low peak flow readings with activities done and foods eaten that day. This can pinpoint triggers.

Foods can cause allergic reactions. I think the asthma is a response to a bad reaction, rather than from the food itself. Food usually does not trigger asthma. As I advise everyone I know, learn the Buteyko breathing method to control your asthma. I have seen how well it works, and can't believe no one knows about it. Doctors will tell you the theory is not proven (I even reckon the theory is wrong), but I can tell you that it does work.
