Is it possible to have an asthma attack due to stress?
Lately in past month I have been quite stressed. I wouldn't say I had really bad asthma but its bad enough. I have had 3 asthma attacks in total, in the past about 5 years or so. Right now I am finding it hard to breathe and I am wondering can stress cause one?

Stress can be a trigger, yes.

Stress is a big factor for one's body to not function right because it's focused on other things. Asthma can be triggered by the stress, most certainly

Yup, happens to me a lot. At the worst times imaginable.
One time, I was talking to the guy I like at school, and he was staring at me with that "oh my God you're pretty" look. So, out of NOWHERE, i start gasping for air and he's all like "What did I do? Are you okay? Oh my God she's dying!!!! Somebody help me!!!" That kid was paranoid for the next 3 months about talking to me. I never got to explain I had asthma.
Sorry, I think that took longer than it should have. But, yes, stress is a very big trigger.

'Asthma causes swelling and inflammation in the airways that lead to your lungs. When asthma flares up, the muscles surrounding the airways become tight .The lining of the air passages swell and become narrower. This keeps the air from passing through easily thus reducing the amt of air that can pass by leading to wheezing sounds. This makes it very hard for you to breathe. These flare-ups are also called asthma attacks or exacerbations.
Symptoms of asthma can be mild or severe. You may have mild attacks now and then, or you may have severe symptoms every day.
Symptoms:
■Wheeze, making a loud or soft whistling noise that occurs when you breathe in and out.
■Cough a lot.
■Feel tightness in your chest.
■Feel short of breath.
■Have trouble sleeping because of coughing or having a hard time breathing.
■Quickly get tired during exercise.
Your symptoms may be worse at night.
Severe asthma attacks can be life-threatening and need emergency treatment..
Believe it or not, it used to be believed that stress and anxiety can cause asthma. That asthma is all in your head.. However, that old theory has since been disproven. Scientists have now proven that anxiety is not all in your head. Studies have proven that anxiety and stress is one of the "triggers" of an asthma attack.
Having said that, STRESS can bring on an asthmatic attack in an asthmatic patient. I know so because I have asthma. My very first frightening attack came in 1999. I do have a long history of allergies. . Sometimes, I have 3-5 in a day. These asthma attacks happen at nights. It starts with paroxysmal coughing then wheezing and SOB( shortness of breath)and all the other symptoms.
3 attacks in a period of 5 yrs ain't bad at all.; esp since Youre not even sure you have asthma.
