I'm looking into joining the military and need some help regarding an asthma diagnosis?
I'm not sure exactly when it was diagnosed and to be honest i'm a little confused on what qualifies as being diagnosed. For instance, I switched from my pediatrition to a normal family doctor and when I got a physical when I was 13, she put that I had mild asthma because of my previous records. Does that necessarily mean I was "diagnosed"?
please stop advertising damn asthma meds, I dont need them, nor will i even consider them

You were diagnosed by your pediatrician ... apparently it wasn't followed up by your GP?

If you have an asthma diagnosis you will be disqualified from the military. In military training, officer/enlisted, you would be exposed to basically tear gas while wearing a gas mask, but you have to take it off for minute or two and answer questions, then replace it. You also have to meet physical fitness requirements, running(timed) and are exposed to diesel/jet fuels, generators and dust and other pollutants.Any of these could cause an asthma exacerbation. A methacholine challenge test is proof of asthma, so, maybe you should have that done pre military physical. You may not need meds and that's great, as asthma sx progress rapidly and you can die if not treated immediately. Some childhood asthma cases are "outgrown". Maybe you'll be lucky. Most people w asthma need at a minimum albuterol/rescue inhaler. Just remember, brain needs oxygen within 4-6 minutes.... Good luck.
