I did not include the definition because I would say it twice. How can I make this better?

Although it may be hard to believe, according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, as many as 23 million Americans, 7 million of them children, suffer from asthma today. Asthma can seriously alter a person's life, of that there is no doubt, but, with correct treatment, asthmatic people can live full and normal lives.

It really depends on the purpose of your speech. Are you informing people about asthma? Are you persuading people to get treatment for asthma or have their children tested for asthma?

I think it sounds good, but without knowing the purpose of your speech, it's difficult to say with certainty whether or not it's appropriate.

Hope this helps!
