Ibuprofen side effects?

Ibuprofen side effects?
I currently take 800mg of Ibuprofen nightly before bed to help control my asthma symptoms. I know it sounds strange, but without insurance I can no longer afford my regular medication and this seems to work just as well. My question is if anyone knows of any negative side effects from long term usage of ibuprofen? I appreciate all feedback and thanks in advance.

This medicine can increase your risk of life-threatening heart or circulation problems, including heart attack or stroke. This risk will increase the longer you use ibuprofen. Do not use this medicine just before or after having heart bypass surgery (also called coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).

Seek emergency medical help if you have symptoms of heart or circulation problems, such as chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, or problems with vision or balance.

This medicine can also increase your risk of serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and gastrointestinal effects can occur without warning at any time while you are taking ibuprofen. Older adults may have an even greater risk of these serious gastrointestinal side effects.

Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. This includes black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
donot Do not take more of this medication than is recommended. An overdose of ibuprofen can cause damage to your stomach or intestines. The maximum amount of ibuprofen for adults is 800 milligrams per dose or 3200 mg per day (4 maximum doses). Use only the smallest amount of ibuprofen needed to get relief from your pain, swelling, or fever.
emt Avoid taking ibuprofen if you are taking aspirin to prevent stroke or heart attack. Ibuprofen can make aspirin less effective in protecting your heart and blood vessels. If you must use both medications, take the ibuprofen at least 8 hours before or 30 minutes after you take the aspirin (non-enteric coated form).
noalcohol Do not drink alcohol while taking ibuprofen. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding caused by ibuprofen.

I have taken 3000mgs in a day and didn't have any problems, I asked my doctor about it, and he said taking that much isn't good for your liver or your stomach lining, but if your not taking more then the recommended dosage, you should be fine

I have a script for the same dosage of ibuprofen as you listed. I would be a little concerned about taking it every night. I think over time this would take a bit of a toll on your stomach. It may cause you to get a stomach ulcer. I just think it is awful that you can't have your asthma meds you need. My sister in law takes that lyrica. Her insurance won't pay for it, so she gets samples from her dr. Is it possible that you could explain to your dr. that you cannot afford it and ask for samples. Asthma is serious and you need your meds. Maybe if you would call and ask for samples you could just get them as you need them. maybe a month at a time. take care of yourself. If you take the ibuprofen every day. Just make sure you eat a little something or drink a half glass or so of milk. make sure something is on your stomach. don't take it on an empty belly.

I have always been told and read that ibuprofen causes or worsens asthma so something is not right here. That's the equivalent of four standard dose tablets. If taken all at once will not be good for your liver or stomach. If you want to continue taking them I suggest time release and on a full stomach but I can't see that they are helping your asthma.

honestly- the ibuprofen is not improving your asthma. you may think it is because you aren't really having any problems with your asthma right now. there are a lot of holistic things you can try. ibuprofen is very caustic to the lining of your stomach and is hard on your liver. there are also many cardiovascular issues from long term usage.

Why am I exhausted all the time? I can't even make it through a day anymore...?

Why am I exhausted all the time? I can't even make it through a day anymore...?
I am 21, I work out 3 or more times a week, go to bed at 10:30 and get up about 6:30 every day, I eat healthy, stay very active. I was pretty sure that I was vitamin D deficient, so I have been taking supplements for that for oh around 3 months. I have asthma but I don't take meds for it, just use the inhaler when needed. I also have very bad allergies and I have been helping my husband with drywalling a house. I think I need glasses, so I'm getting my eyes checked on Monday. I had a migraine about 2 weeks ago that lasted for a week and a half. I have been under a lot of stress with my parents going through a very messy devorce the past 2 months or so. I have also started a new birth control (Depo) about a month and a half ago. SOOO anyway... that's my background! Now my problem is first the migraines. Why have I had one for so long? I am prone to getting them, just not that last nearly 2 weeks... I have recently (the last 2 weeks i think?) just started being super tired and exhausted. I don't have any energy. I can't even make it through the day without feeling like I need to lay down to take a nap. I haven't been myself lately... Can anybody help me? I'm tired of not being myself...

Prednisone for Asthma....HELP?

Prednisone for Asthma....HELP?
I have been put on Prednisone for a horrible asthma attack. I have gone since my teenage years with very acute asthma, but after I had my daughter, I'm not sure if I got sick or what happened but I have been having a horrible time with my asthma, I even ended up in the hospital three times with my oxygen levels at 83 percent. I'm not sure how bad this is but I know for sure it's not good... I was put on a whole mess of medications including Prednisone... For ten days... 50 MGS twice a day for five days and 50 mgs once a day for the next five days... Well while researching the drug, I am royally freaked out. I've read things about the side effects such as the outcome of coming off of this drug, like panic attacks, hair loss, weight gain depression, high blood pressure. The shakes, anxiety. OMG. I already suffer from horrific anxiety disorder and bulimia which scares me about the panic attacks and weight gain.

So question is, do you think this short of time, and with the dosage, I can suffer from these side effects. Someone help... It's like, either breathe and die from a side effect... Or don't breathe, and be miserable my entire life.

Answer by Mike
Well, I'll tell you something about drug side-effects, and I'm not trying to be cold, but: If you are dead because you didn't take them, you don't care. Breathing is always a GOOD thing!

So, take the drug, if your doctor thinks it'll help your condition. Try to pay a lot of attention to how your body "feels" afterwards, and let your doctor know of anything strange. Maybe you won't have any side effects at all. Severe asthma can be fatal, so don't screw around on the internet asking strangers, ask your doctor!

Answer by Superclerk
Side effects from prednisone are a lesser evil than not breathing. Take care to avoid allergens, and get on a regular allergy medicine to avoid or lessen future attacks. You'll probably gain weight, become a bit more anxious from the predinisone. You're right- these side effects can be serious. You'll also want to manage your anxiety, since that will affect your breathing too. Discuss a long term care program for your allergies with your doctor.

Answer by Mary
I agree with the other posters, breathing is better than the side effects. It is short term, you will be fine. 83% is pretty low. Normal is 95 and above. Most people are 98 and above. We put people on oxygen less than 90.

You need to talk to an asthma specialist and get on a proper controller medication so you do not have attacks. 2 popular controller meds are advair and singular. Advair has a steriod component but because it goes just to the lungs it does not have the same side effects as prednisone.

Good Luck
